Should I stop marketing?

Short answer: NO!

The first reaction you have is probably to save costs. Lock it all down, minimise spend, wait for it to blow over. The thing is, that this is literally the worst thing you can do for your business and here’s why:

We’ve been here before, and that approach didn’t work. It was called the GFC in 2008, and trust us, this situation will have a very similar effect on businesses. We can learn from this though, and put plans into place to avoid the same mistakes.

A lot has changed since 2008 of course – we do not have the same level of customer loyalty there was back then, so it’s even more important to be communicating with your audiences. This isn’t just about your “response to COVID-19” – everyone’s doing it – it’s about how you can best serve your clients and customers in this time, and what your business will do to adapt to service their needs.

Adapt or be left behind

Bear in mind that most people don’t know what to do in this situation. And that’s ok. But most people won’t be proactive. They won’t see this as an opportunity. They’ll simply sit back and hope it all works out. And unless they have a hell of a lot of money saved, (which 99% of businesses don’t), they will really, really struggle.

As business owners, you can’t just do that. You need to be proactive to address what comes, no matter what it is. You need to turn lemons into lemonade on a daily basis. This situation, although bad, can be harnesses, and turned into your advantage.
